Brownie in a Jar

Brownie in a Jar
This gluten-free and dairy-free brownie mix in a jar is the perfect DIY gift for friends, family, and coworkers. Simply layer the dry ingredients in a jar and provide a label with the instructions. With holidays quickly approaching, gifts are on everyone’s mind. If you’re like me and love adding that thoughtful homemade touch, this brownie in a jar is a perfect option. The jar is festive, pretty, and the brownies taste delicious! The recipe I used is allergen friendly, but this method will work for any recipe you prefer. This gift is very easy to prepare: simply pour the dry ingredients into the mason jar in layers. I started with the almond flour, then followed with baking powder, sea salt, cacao powder, coconut sugar, and dairy free chocolate chips! Once the ingredients are in the jar, add a ribbon and attach a label with baking instructions. Because the jar only contains dry ingredients, the jar recipient will need to add a few of their own ingredients prior to baking. Make sure you list out what is needed to make this recipe along with baking instructions. I also like to list out the ingredients included in the jar for reference!

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients for a single batch of brownies
  • 1 cup organic almond flour
  • ¼ cup organic cacao powder
  • ¼ cup organic coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup dairy-free sugar-free chocolate chips We use Lilly’s stevia sweetened chips
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • 1 pint sized 16oz mason jar
  • You will need:
  • 2 Tablespoons organic refined coconut oil softened
  • 1 flax egg or 1 pasture raised egg
  • 1/4 cup organic unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix together coconut oil, flax egg, vanilla, and almond milk until creamy.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the brownie mix. Stir well.
  • Pour batter into a greased 8 x 8 inch baking pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  • Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
  • Brownie mix ingredients for your label:
  • almond flour, coconut sugar, dairy free chocolate chips, cacao powder, baking powder, sea salt

Creating your gift jar

  • Ribbon – enough to go around the top of the jar
  • Pour the almond flour into the bottom of the mason jar, then top with baking powder and sea salt.
  • Layer the cacao powder, coconut sugar, and chocolate chips.
  • Seal the jar and wrap a ribbon around the neck of the jar to attach the instruction label.
  • When it comes to choosing what jar to use, there are two choices that work best for this:
  • The pint-sized mason jar fits approximately two cups worth of dry ingredients or a single batch of the recipe below. This will yield about 12 brownies.
  • The quart-sized mason jar fits approximately four cups worth of dry ingredients; double the recipe below. This will yield 24 brownies.
