A New Gluten Sensitivity Test

Researchers from Rome presented a new gluten sensitivity test at the Digestive Diseases Week medical conference. The researchers placed an oral patch of 1.2 mg gluten in the inside upper lip. After 2 hours, 80% of those tested (who were known gluten sensitivity sufferers) reacted to the patch with swelling and blistering. Further, 50% developed gas and 11% developed diarrhea within 24 hours. It’s interesting to note that such a small amount (1.2 mg) created these reactions. This was felt to reveal in the mouth what was actually occurring in the gut.
