Coronavirus Update – Video

Coronavirus Update

We are all very focused and concerned with the worldwide coronavirus outbreak. I wanted to give you an update, some facts, and steps you can take to protect you and your family.

The coronavirus is a common virus typically affecting animals such as camels, cats, and bats. It can mutate and spread to people, as the current one has.

As you know the current virus began in China last December 2019. Currently, there are 82,000 confirmed cases, affecting 48 countries. The current death toll is 2800 or 3.4% of the infected.

The 2003 SARS outbreak was worse

You may recall the SARS outbreak in 2003. This was a much more deadly virus, killing 9.6% of those afflicted.

They are unsure why but more men were afflicted with that particular virus.

Here in the U.S., we have minimal cases thus far

Here in the U.S., we have 60 known cases, 42 of whom were aboard the same cruise ship. To date, two Americans have lost their lives, both of whom were medically at high risk.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 80% of those infected will develop only a mild infection and recover easily. They are putting the fatality rate at about 2% currently.

Symptoms of Coronavirus

The symptoms of the coronavirus are fever, cough, shortness of breath, and muscle pain. It’s spread through close contact such as shaking hands, through the air from an infected person who has sneezed or coughed, or from touching infected surfaces. You can touch an infected surface and if you then touch your mouth, nose, or eyes, you can infect yourself.

The incubation period from exposure to symptoms is anywhere from 2 to 14 days.

Strategies

Avoid ill people whenever possible.

Stay home if you feel ill.

Disinfect commonly used items.

Wash hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds – time yourself; that’s longer than you think. Also, don’t forget the backs of your hands and beneath your fingernails.

Face Masks

The CDC claims that wearing a face mask when you’re not ill won’t protect you. You can be wearing a mask but if you then itch your nose or rub your eyes, you can still infect yourself. They claim masks should be restricted for those who are ill or health care workers taking care of the ill.

Who’s at greatest risk?

The Americans who are at the greatest risk are the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions that weaken their immune system.

Healthy individuals are much less likely to fall ill.

Typical flu statistics

Of note is comparing the current level of illness to that of a typical flu season. During the 2018-2019 flu season, the CDC estimated up to 42.9 million people got ill. Of the close to 43 million, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.

Those statistics represent a typical season flu season.

What can you do to protect yourself and your family?

A virus is opportunistic, meaning it makes you ill when your own immune system can’t fight it off effectively. Therefore, we have an opportunity to increase the strength of our immune system, thereby lessening our risk.

This involves lifestyle, diet, and nutrition steps.

Lifestyle

The first few were mentioned above but I think they’re worth repeating:

  • Avoid ill people
  • Stay at home if you’re ill
  • Disinfect commonly used surfaces that others touch
  • Wash your hands often with soap for 20 seconds.

Additionally:

Get 8 hours of restful sleep. It’s a known fact that reduced sleep compromises your immune function.

A great study conducted at UCLA examined healthy young men and found that a single night of 4 hours of sleep, decreased their natural killer cells by 70%. It’s a huge state of immune deficiency for a single bad night’s sleep. There are many more studies confirming this risk.

Don’t eat sugar. Sorry, but viruses, cancer cells, yeast, and bacteria alike, LOVE sugar. Don’t feed them and give them the opportunity to multiply.

Drink 8 glasses of water. Water is a great way to detoxify.

Sweat. Whether it’s through a sauna, a hot bath, or exercise, sweating helps to detoxify your body.

Nutrition

I find it sad that with all the “talk” of the coronavirus I haven’t heard anyone discuss nutritional and lifestyle factors we can all easily take to lessen our risk.

Here at Root Cause, we have some favorite immune boosters. They include:

Argentyn 23 – this product is an extremely small particle of silver, making it easily absorbed. Silver is a known anti-viral in addition to being anti-bacterial. The product is a tasteless liquid you hold under your tongue for 30 seconds.

Complete Immune Support – another liquid made from maitake mushroom, long known for its immune activation and enhancement.

Vitamin A, Micellized – also a liquid, the micellization of the fat-soluble vitamin A enhances absorption. Vitamin A is a known immune booster and anti-oxidant.

Vitamin C – this particular vitamin C has been proven to increase natural killer cells, your immune defense army. We’ve utilized this particular product for decades.

Zinc lozenges – this is a good tasting lozenge designed to be sucked on until gone, not chewed. Zinc is a known anti-viral.

There are other products we utilize, but I think the above is a nice booster package.
