What Causes Heart Palpitations: ER Visit Needed? – Video
When ER Visits Don’t Provide Answers for What Causes Heart Palpitations
In this video, Dr. Vikki Petersen discusses how patients going to the ER to find answers to what causes heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and anxiety attacks don’t receive an answer. Heart palpitations often lead people to the ER, fearing they are having a heart attack. Many patients are told their heart is fine, given antacids, blood pressure medication, or anti-anxiety drugs, and sent home—without a real answer. Dr. Petersen explains that these symptoms can be caused by Hiatal Hernia Syndrome, where inflammation in the gut increases intra-abdominal pressure, leading to acid reflux, diaphragm spasms, and vagus nerve irritation. She highlights that chronic inflammation is also linked to heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune conditions.
