1 Way to Prevent Sun Damage, Naturally

Why Let Your Skin Age Prematurely with Sun Damage?

Dr. Vikki Peterson discusses here the benefits of consuming fruits that contain lycopene to protect the skin from sun damage and premature aging. She mentions that tomatoes, especially sun-dried tomatoes, have a high concentration of lycopene. Other fruits in this category include watermelon, guava, papaya, and pink grapefruit. These fruits are not only visually appealing but also provide natural skin protection.
Dr. Vikki encourages the consumption of fruits and vegetables for overall health and offers a free consultation on her website for those interested in natural approaches to improving their health.

Lycopene helps preventing sun damage

I want to talk to you today about some really delicious fruits that you can consume during the summer or when the sun is out and you’re trying to avoid not just sunburn, but sun damage. These are particular fruits, and they are a beautiful reddish-pink color, and they contain lycopene. Lycopene is a substance, it’s in the keratinoid family, and this is really the reason to enjoy fruits and vegetables, generally speaking. They have so many healthy nutrients and protective aspects to them, but lycopene in particular is known to protect your skin. We want to avoid sun damage; we want to avoid premature aging.

Sun-dried tomatoes concentrate lycopene

So again, it’s for sun damage, it’s for sunburn. And when we think of sunburn, we think of red. It’s an easy way to remember these particular fruits. So, we’re talking about tomatoes, and you don’t always think about a tomato being a fruit, but they are. Particularly sun-dried tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes are great as well, but sun-dried tomatoes have 10 times the amount of lycopene as regular tomatoes do, which makes sense. They’re dry, they’re more concentrated.

In this family you also find watermelon, guava, papaya and pink grapefruit. So, you see what I mean by those pretty colors. And when you think of these particular fruits, especially the guava and the papaya, they are considered fruits that you tend to find near the equator. They’re called tropical fruits for that reason. And isn’t it interesting that Mother Nature has created these fruits so rich in this substance that protects your skin? And they are inherently found in those really hot climates.

So, enjoy these beautiful, pretty fruits. They’re very healthy for you anyway, but they’re providing skin protection as well.
