Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
Everyone loves chocolate but the added dairy, fat and sugar makes it less than healthy. The benefits you hear spoken of regarding chocolate is in the seed itself, known as cacao. Cacao alone is rather bitter, but you can enjoy it’s chocolatey goodness without actual sugar.Buon Appetito!
Ingredients
- 1 cup organic almond milk
- 1/2 cup frozen sweet cherries or organic raspberries
- 1/2 ripe organic banana
- 1 cup organic baby spinach leaves
- 1-2 tablespoons organic cacao powder [Note: not cocoa powder – it doesn’t provide same health benefits]
- 2 or 3 dates soaked with stem and pit removed. (Another option is date sugar – simply made by pulverizing dates, therefore a whole food.)
- 2 teaspoons organic chia seeds or ground flax
- 1 Tablespoon organic cacao nibs Optional
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender and combine until smooth, approximately 1 to 2 minutes. Depending on whether you like the cacao nibs whole, you can add them at the end so that they remain whole and crunchy.
