Ozempic for Weight Loss: It’s a No Go

Summary

In this transcript, Dr. Vikki discusses the recent trend of extreme weight loss attributed to the use of diabetic drugs, specifically Ozempic and Wegovy, by the Kardashians. Dr. Vikki warns against the dangers of quick fixes and highlights the severe side effects of these drugs, including extreme nausea, constipation, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, elevated heart rate, abdominal pain, vomiting, and gas.

She emphasizes that there are no quick fixes in life and that the body should not be treated as something disposable. She mentions the more serious side effects of these drugs, such as thyroid cancer, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, and increased heart rate. She criticizes the clinics that offer these drugs for weight loss and believes that it is important to address the root cause of weight issues rather than resorting to extreme measures. Dr. Vikki encourages natural and slow weight loss that is sustainable and promotes optimal function of the body.

You’ve probably heard a little bit about the latest Kardashian drug resulting in extreme weight loss. And if you’ve seen some pictures, it’s extremely intense as far as the amount of weight loss two of the Kardashian women have lost, and it’s being attributed to a diabetic drug. One is called Ozempic, another one is called Wegovy.

Ozempic, a quick fix?

And don’t we love the quick fix? But we shouldn’t. We should be very, very suspicious of the quick fix. It’s like, “Oh man, I could look like a skeleton in just a few weeks.” Forgive me. I was wondering how long it would take for someone to reach out to me over social media and say, “Hey, do you offer Wegovy injections at your clinic?” And I was like, “No, it’s dangerous.

Both these drugs are in sort of the same category. They have to do with extreme obesity, but these drugs have terrible side effects. What [side effects] are we looking at? We’re looking at extreme nausea. Now, let me ask you, if you’ve ever really been nauseous, how much do you want to eat? Of course, food does not look good because you feel nauseous and your digestive tract is trying to tell you, “Don’t put anything in me. I don’t want to digest anything.” So that’s a pretty easy weight loss tool to be so nauseous.

[Continuing the list of side effects] There’s constipation, there’s diarrhea, there’s headache, there’s dizziness, there’s elevated heart rate because your blood sugar goes so low, you’re ready to pass out so your heart starts pumping harder. What else was on the list? There was abdominal pain, vomiting, gas. Not a great list. And every drug has side effects.

Ozempic: Significant side effects

There are no quick fixes in life. I’m sorry if this is news to you, but the body is a beautiful machine. It’s a complex machine. It doesn’t like it when you treat it like it’s something that’s disposable. And here, let me just completely alter my metabolism, make myself nauseated, throw my whole GI tract into a tizzy, and of course I won’t be hungry because I feel so awful and my GI tract doesn’t want to digest anything, so I don’t want to eat anything… hence this extreme weight loss.

Weight loss clinics now offering Ozempic?

And what about the more serious side effects? I think nausea and vomiting is pretty severe, along with constipation, diarrhea, and feeling dizzy, but there’s thyroid cancer. There’s gallbladder disease. There’s pancreatitis. There was, oh, the increased heart rate. So these are even the more serious side effects. It’s actually got a warning on it having to do with the Thyroid Cancer Association.

So, please don’t fall for this. Please.

And, of course, clinics are popping up all over the place. I’m coming to you from Clearwater Florida Clinic right now, and sure enough, online, a local Tampa clinic offering this for weight loss. It’s shameful. Honestly, I think it’s shameful because it’s not hard to really get to the root cause of why your body is having trouble losing weight.

Weight loss: a healing process that takes time

Again, the body loves to heal. It’s designed to heal. It’s designed to find normalcy and optimal function. And when it’s not doing that, there’s a reason and it’s not to come in with a sledgehammer and just turn off your whole digestive tract and make you so nauseous you don’t want to eat anything in an effort to lose weight.

So, I hate to say it, but you follow these young ladies, and I think they’re approaching 40 now, but I worry. I worry for them. I worry for anybody who’s doing this type of treatment to their body because, boy, short-term benefits, long-term misery.

So, please don’t fall for this and if you do need some help losing weight naturally and slowly, you all might not want to hear that word, but that’s the way it should be. Meaning steadily, slowly, headed in the right direction. You feel good doing it. We’re getting to the true root cause. If you want that, feel free to contact us. That’s why we’re here. We’ll talk soon …

Root Cause Medical Clinic and Weight Loss

The Root Cause Medical Team: No to Ozempic for Weight LossWeight loss is a benefit of returning to great health. Not an end-purpose in itself. Yes, it is absolutely worth pursuing as a side objective, but it will only happen durably if the root causes of the weight gain are isolated and addressed. Dieting for weight loss should not be a lifelong protocol. Dieting to shed a few extra pounds is a short-term achievable objective which mostly involves making a few beneficial lifestyle changes that can be maintained without harsh discipline. But obesity or serious overweight cannot be addressed durably by severe dieting or “miracle pills” like Ozempic. The weight gain may very well have started with bad dietary habits during childhood. But when it rose to the level of obesity, the initial diet issues have been compounded by dysfunctions created by these issues and other stressors. You have to address the root causes of these issues. This is a process, and it takes time.

The mission of Root Cause Medical Clinic is to help you regain vibrant health, a state in which you feel rejuvenated, full of energy, and free (or greatly liberated) from chronic pain. Functional medicine achieves this goal through root cause analysis, testing, applying the correct medical protocols, and by helping the person make the lifestyle changes required to destress the body and help its own ability to heal.
